Drainage and Service Ducts

The ability to capture or divert flood water away from properties is becoming increasingly important. Water run off has long been a persistent problem and the Water Framework Directive now makes this an even more essential consideration. Simply allowing Highway run off to enter water courses in becoming increasingly problematic. The Blackburn & Roberts range of drainage solutions provide elegant and decorative solutions to drainage problems.

Drainage Catchpits

The change in weather patterns has led to more intense rainfall, creating more regular flash flooding than ever before. Our range of drainage catchpit grids and substructures offer a comprehensive solution to the issue.

Kinghurst Bypass Kerb

The increased use of road humps in traffic calming schemes sometimes creates drainage problems. A road hump can act as a dam and create embarrassing lakes. If gaps are left to maintain gutter continuity these present a hazard to pedestrians who like to cross at road humps.

The Kinghurst Bypass Kerb addresses this problem by removing a section of the existing kerb and replacing it with a duct which collects the rainwater on one side of the hump, diverts it past the obstacle and returns it to the gutter once the hump has been passed.

Nib Nobbler

Maintain channel continuity with the Nib Nobbler. When nibs or build outs are constructed they obstruct channels and create drainage problems. If gaps are left pedestrian can fall into them. When no provision is made flooding often occurs.

The cost of gullies is huge and there are not always sewers to receive the water. Luckily, Blackburn & Roberts now provide the answer with the Nib Nobbler.

This is a duct which is built into the obstruction and provides channel continuity through it. These unobtrusive units provide a cost effective alternative to gullies

Rowsander Path Pipe

The Rowsander Path Pipe is an economic unit and is quick and simple to fit.

It has a neat kerb edge when installed and finishes flush with the walkway with no bumps to cause trips and no slits to catch heels. It has an attractive appearance and is less than half the cost of other alternatives available.

It is a superb yet simple drainage solution which is quick to install, low maintenance and popular wherever they are used.

The Rowsander Path Pipe can be cut on site to overcome numerous problems. The cut end can be dressed to match any kerb profile. They can be laid in all types of footpath surface. Flaggers love them, as they provide a straight edge to work with.

The Brumshunt

Providing kerb to kerb crossings obstructs channels. The small height change of the crossings makes ducting through them impractical and creating gullies is often expensive. The solution is The Brumshunt.

This unit diverts the water through the kerb to the back of the footpath passing under the wearing course and any tactile paving before returning the water to the channel after the crossing has been passed.

Flood Gobbler

More intense rainfall is a growing issue for Highways Designers. There has been a significant increase in the use of kerbs with inlets in their faces. These kerbs are an excellent solution when there is enough depth to install them and a main drainage system is convenient. If you are on a bridge deck or another site with restricted depth they are of limited use.

If there are no drains to discharge into they do not solve the problem. In those cases we offer The Flood Gobbler. This steel unit collects rainwater and either removes it to a drainage system or returns it to the road at a more convenient location without it going below road level.

Blackburn & Roberts offer the Servisafe data duct.

A perennial problem for Highways and Signals Engineers is the secure routing of signal and data cables across road on bridge decks.

The shallow depth of the metalled surface and the need not to compromise bridge waterproofing often lead to complicated, and expensive, re routing leaving the services exposed to damage or vandalism.

This rolled steel unit with socketed ends provides a quick, simple, robust, long terms solution.
